On this full-day tour, challenge yourself to bike to the majestic mountain of Doi Suthep located west of Chiang Mai. Take a 62-mile (100-km) loop around the mountain and ride on paved roads under the shade of lush greenery in the Lanna countryside.
Leave the city behind and begin your bicycle adventure at Huay Tung Tao Lake as you cycle through quiet countryside and pass dense forest, fruit orchards, and plantations. If you are lucky, you might spot an elephant as you cross the protected and preserved Doi Suthep–Pui National Park.
Continue toward the narrow valley of the Mae Sa River and take in views of orchid farms and other flower fields grown by the Hmong locals. Stop for a lunch break at a Samoeng village and interact with your hosts as you try authentic Thai cuisine 3,610 feet (1,100 m) above sea level.
After lunch, take a tougher ride to the top of the mountain and then reward yourself with an easy downhill path as you roll past the fertile foothills south of Chiang Mai. Along the ancient trade path of the Ping River, pedal to the city for a tour of the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam as your guide tells you the history of this lost city.
