Herb Basics Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai Shopping

Shopping for quality spa and aromatherapy products in Chiang Mai is made easy with the fabulous Herb Basics, a brand who makes the most of Chiang Mai’s temperate climate to source local flowers and oils from the hills surrounding the city, creating a fabulously scented collection that will make you feel pampered and relaxed. In the city you will find Herb Basics in two handy locations. There’s a small branch on the Tha Pae Road and a larger store on the Sunday Walking Street, at the corner of Rachadamnoen Road and Prapokklao Road, but if you don’t get time to check it out before you go then there is a branch on the 2nd floor of domestic departures.

The shop is well lit, the displays are attractive, and although all the products smell lovely, they are split into two groups, those which are just scented and those which are said to have healing properties. The staff are very friendly and speak good English, so if you want to know more about certain products, feel free to ask. There are also plenty of signs around the shop that give more details about sourcing and ingredients.

If you have been lucky enough to enjoy some of the amazing spa treatments on offer in Chiang Mai, then Herb Basics is a great place to stock up on products to recreate the experience once you are home. Bath Tea comes in ginger, mint, kaffir lime and lemongrass. Put one of these bags in your bath and let the scents of Thailand flood your senses. We are not quite sure how easy it would be to recreate a body mask experience at home, but for 129 baht for the herbal blend paste we are certainly willing to try!

People rave about Herb Basics skin care. We are addicted to the honey cleansing milk (169 baht) because it smells so sweet and really helps unclog pores and clear the daily build up of dirt from your face. If the honey is too sweet it also comes infused with either rice or pandan leaf. The complementing toners (129 baht) come in refreshing cucumber, tamarind, pandan and our favourite, guava leaf, which smells more herbal than fruity.

Another popular range is their products with healing properties. To sooth any muscle aches check out their sports gel and balm that comes in cool and warm (119 baht), or if are lucky enough to have someone to help sooth your tension they have a range of scented massage balms as well. Many people swear by Herb Basics Silver Care spray (439 baht), with anti-bacterial properties that is used for the treatment of sunburn, bites and blemishes.

We can’t help but pop into Herb Basics when we are in town because they are always working on new products and adding new scents to their popular lines. Add to that the great value prices and you don’t feel bad buying a treat or three for yourself, or even as gifts to take home.
