Chiang Mai - Thailand, one of the most relaxing places on the planet. Mist covered mountains, ethnic hilltribe villages, rolling rivers, historic temples, wild elephants. Adventure, trekking and inspiring scenery. Located 700 miles from Bangkok, the gateway to northern Thailand and beyond....

Less crowded than Phuket, more laid back than Koh Samui, and just 1 hour 90 minutes by air from Bangkok, with a range of accommodation from budget to deluxe. This idyllic province really is the ultimate destination.

Getting to Chiang Mai

Citizens holding a valid passport from a country on Thailand’s approved list may enter the Kingdom for thirty days without a visa. Those wishing to stay longer must apply for a 60 day tourist visa, available at any Royal Thai embassy or consulate. Visas are not available once you are in Thailand so make sure to make arrangements before you leave your home country. Within Thailand it is possible to apply for a ten day extension of your stay at any immigration checkpoint. (Read More...)

Getting Around Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a fairly compact city, with many of the attractions within easy walking distance of the main hotels, and each other. Walking around Chiang Mai is a great way to appreciate its antique charm. An afternoon spent wandering the twisting sois (alleyways) of the old city is a pleasant way to lose yourself amidst genuine Thai life. (Read More...)

Weather and Climate

With its more Northern latitude and higher elevation, Chiang Mai enjoys a cooler climate than the stifling central plains near Bangkok. During the hot season, however, the temperature rises quite a bit and the citizens look for ways to beat the heat. Perhaps the rising mercury is the reason why Songkran (the water festival) is celebrated so enthusiastically here. Due to the more tropical location of Chiang Mai, the normal seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter don’t apply. Instead, there are three seasons: Hot, Cool and Rainy. (Read More...)
