One of the greatest things about Chiang Mai is the prevalence of traditionally styled buildings, and part of Dash’s charm is its location. The large restaurant is set out over two floors, a teak building that stands out amongst the small frangipani guesthouses that line the road. Downstairs you’ll find the bar and plenty of tables and chairs, upstairs is traditional Thai style dining with low tables and comfortable triangle cushions. The restaurant is open to the elements, which thankfully in Chiang Mai is generally warm with a cooling breeze. This isn’t a thoroughfare so traffic is minimal. Finally there is an outdoor terrace, surrounded by greenery. If you are lucky a live band will be playing, which adds to fun and chilled out atmosphere here.
The food at Dash includes western and Thai dishes, so there’s something for everything. The chunky fresh spring rolls (125 baht) and juicy fried chicken wings (85 baht) make for a great appetiser, served with a chilled Singha or Chang beer. Mains include papaya salad (85 baht), tom yum with chicken or shrimp, a variety of noodles dishes starting at 75 baht and good vegetarian options. For those who are craving international food, the range includes spaghetti Bolognese, large salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers. Leave room for dessert, as delights such as passion fruit carrot cake (95 baht), brownie with ice-cream (95 baht) and mango cheesecake (115 baht) all getting rave reviews from customers.
Sometimes following the crowd is a good thing, and Dash has a great reputation, and delivers low-key delicious dinners.
