The Women’s Correctional Institute in Chiang Mai is a prison that trains inmates with vocational skills such as massage, hospitality or customer service so that when they leave the prison they have skills that help them find a job. Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institute is located in the middle of the old city, close to the Three Kings Monument. Opposite the prison is the vocational training center, which is a wooden building built in Traditional Thai style. Inside the training center is a massage shop staffed with current inmates from the prison opposite. There are a few female guards sitting around ensuring the safety of customers in emergencies but they are not needed. The inmates all act professionally and have been training to learn Thai massage for at least six months, so customers are their test subjects.
The Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional Institute Massage shop has good reviews and many customers come back daily during their holidays. A traditional Thai massage costs 180 Baht per hour and any tips go to the inmates who can save for their release. Next door to the massage shop is the Chiang Mai Women’s Correctional
